Engel is a melodic death metal band with alternative influences from Gothenburg, Sweden. They are currently signed to French label Season of Mist, but released their debut album Absolute Design via SPV GmbH/Steamhammer on October 31, 2007. The album was released in North America on May 20, 2008.[1]

Their second album, Threnody, was finished by the end of 2008, but due to issues with their former label, SPV GmbH, the release was delayed. On April 7, 2010, Threnody was released in Japan through Trooper Entertainment. The album was released on the music streaming service Spotify on November 8, 2010. It was released in Europe on the same date. The North American release occurred on January 11, 2011. Season of Mist released Threnody in both Europe and North America.

The band has shared the stage with Still Remains,[2] and toured Europe with Amon Amarth and Dimmu Borgir.[3] They were also part of Paradise Lost's "Faith Divides Us - Death Unites Us" tour, along with Katatonia[4] and Samael.

Former bass player Michael HĂĄkansson left the band on August 14, 2008 to pursue other opportunities. Steve Drennan (Amon Amarth) took over playing bass during November 2008. During 2010, the band replaced their drummer, Daniel "Mojjo" Moilanen with Jimmy Olausson, who also plays drums for Marionette.
